This Eagles of the Empire series by Simon Scarrow is the best series I've ever read. Every book has been hard to put down. This most recent book is no exception. I hope there's more to come even after this one! The main characters of Macro and Cato really grow on you and it's exciting to follow them through their adventures. You learn a lot about Rome and the Roman Empire as well as it's military campaigns, strategies and weapons. Mr. Scarrow has done serious research in every region in which his stories are set so there's lots of historical accuracy. He will admit when he has taken literary license to "fill in the blanks" where there's missing information. I love this series!

When I read the last book in this series, I got a bit worried about Cato and Macro. I was beginning to wonder if the next book wouldn't be the last in the series, but Day of the Caesars is a fast-moving tale about the early part of the reign of Nero. Cato gets to be ingenious, Lucius gets to be cute, and it beginning to look as though Macro may get a life. Cato seems to have finally figured out that it's best to stay far away from Rome so the series can continue and will produce some interesting adventures for him and Macro. 5 stars for this because it's a ripping yarn!!

I have read all of the Eagles of the Empire books through and including this one. There is a bit of repetition in the fighting among the books. However, I have found the character development of Cato and Marco through the series to be fascinating. Further Scarrow's attempts to be faithful to history is appreciated, even though I know he takes some license given the paucity of period records. Having visited Rome, which I found interesting but sterile for the lack of historical characters, I much prefer reading about the time. Rome is neat, to be sure, but the parts which are ancient Rome is just stuff (buildings and ruins) without any life, the life of a society being defined mostly by its people and much less by its stuff.

I am an avid fan of Simon Scarrow, especially the Eagles of the Empire series, following Cato and Macro as they take us time traveling through the Roman empire with their military adventures, from Britain to the eastern Mediterranean, never a dull moment. Scarrow keeps it exciting, very detailed descriptions with physical violence, with a sense of suspense as to what could possibly happen next.

Like most of this series it was fast paced with interesting twists and like other books in this series I could not put it down and disappointed when I reached the last page but as Simon Scarrow has set the scene for the sequel which I am looking forward to.

Twisting plot lines provide adventurous suspense for the two principles and the historical figure of Nero along with a culpable scenario explaining the burning of Rome, but no mention of a fiddle.

Fantastic historical adventure for our two heros. This time in the Eternal City itself. Loved the intrigue and machinations in the turmoil of Nero's reign.The reason I have it a 4 star was that the very end of the climax was a bit predictable.Still it is a great read.

Reading the last book,I started to get the feeling that the series was getting a little tired and that perhaps it might be time to put it to rest,but, Simon has proved me wrong with this novel. The excitement is back with fresh story arcs, fabulous writing and character development. I can't wait for the next installment.

Taught everything I needed to know to pass the test. The author did an excellent job on the organization and presentation, and even explained a few things that I couldn't quite get a handle on from other material I've studied.

Of all the books for the Network+ exam this one follows most closely to the exam objectives that CompTIA puts out for the exam. It is detailed and straightforward and also has a tons of resources that you can use online to help pass the test. Would definitely recommend this book.

Purchased the Kindle version of this book and while I found the information in the book to be relevant to the exam I was disappointed to find the practice exams that are touted on the description of the book as being included with the Kindle version are not included.

I bought this product for use in reviewing, and for the online practice test. Unfortunately, the pearson website refused to acknowledge the codes sent with the book for the practice test. Amazon was very helpful in trying to resolve this issue, Pearson however was worthless. To add insult to injury, only some of their "online features" actually worked and the text book was by turns entirely too vague or too specific. I returned it. Not worth the money. It gets two stars because the book actually covers the exam objectives even if I don't care for the way it does it.

This book was a serious God send. Its immensely thorough with the information and it goes over everything in a detailed fashion but a common speak manner. I'm getting ready to take my exam soon and I'm nervous but with this this book I feel good.

Excellent examples, easy to read, good end-of-chapter quizzes and great real-world use case stories featured at the end of every chapter to bring into context some of the materials covered. All certification books should follow this template.

Has almost every Exam Objective covered. Is east to read with a lot of images, tables and charts to help understand topics. If you have zero knowledge of networks, some of the words and definitions maybe not be simplified enough.

I have a decent bit of networking experience, which is lucky for me because otherwise I'd be struggling to get through this book. I don't think the definitions are clear enough for a beginner trying to learn the Net+ material. For example, the author defines a static route as "Routes that can be statically configured." That's not useful or clear: what does statically configured mean? What's the point of reading the book if the reader ends up having to Google the terms anyway?This is pretty common throughout the book. I'd pick a different book if you're new to networking.

This is a gem! The author has so captured those ever-so-challenging middle school years. Adults should not pass it by. It is insightful and has something for its reader of any age. We all go through those middle school years throughout our lives wherein we are not exactly sure who we are, where we are, or where we are going. I do believe most of us can see each of us somewhere in this book. It is also a great tribute to friendship.

Our 11-year-old is very interested in graphic novels and he LOVED this book. It inspired him to draw more (I've seen a LOT of character sketches in the past month). And I appreciate how it teaches the concept that developing your skill takes patience no matter your level of natural talent.As for the flashlight: I had to make him turn off his light well after the normal bedtime, but somehow he managed to finish the book before breakfast the next morning. A sure sign of a hit in our home. I definitely recommend this book!
