It is difficult to find a good graduate level public economics book which covers not only the traditional public finance but also public choice theory, both of which are now together called 'Public Economics'. It is a very useful book and has fulfilled a long desired need.There has always been a relative lack of interest in public economics in american universities, where it is still considered rather less important compared to Micro and Macro economics. Over time, the role and responsibilites of the government in national economic scene was considered to be minimal in US, though there are instances where people working for an organization does not even know that it is a government owned/controlled entitiy!! Anyway, Eurpoe is a place where public economics is still considered an import part of economic analysis and it is no surpise that the authors of this book are from Eurpoe, even though it has been published by MIT Press.The book has been written with an international perspective - thus you don't have a description of tax system in USA but a discussion of taxation theory, etc. The book covers broad areas of public economics and economic efficiency, government, efficiency and departure from it, political economy, equity and distribution, taxation, jurisdictional and temporal issues in 21 chapters. One of the added benefits of the book is the solution manual of the exercises available separately and it contains solution to ALL the problems in the book.A must book for every public economics student and for those also who are not so interested in public economics.

This book is great and it offers good examples about the topics that touches. The only thing i don't like it is extensive use of mathematics and the poor graphics that has.
so i purchased this book for my class at school. all the info was there and i used it like it should have been. shipping was great.
